Online DJ Battle with Turntable.fm
Co-host: MEISA & Music Industry Department
Location: Foster Tanner Music Building, Tallahassee, Fla.
Date: Wednesday, Nov 30. 5, 2012
Time: 8:00p.m. To 10:00p.m.
Attendees: Approximately 20 students from Florida A&M University were

in attendance.

Leading up to the event….
I had meetings with the Chair of the Music Industry Department,

Dr. Kawachi A. Clemons. We discuss the planning of the event. I also

had meetings with the president of MEISA, which is a music industry

organization. MEISA was able to partner with me on the event. I created

a flyer for the event and send it out to Residential Assistants, Music

Industry Professors and MEISA. They sent it to their members and

residences and post it up in the Music Building and Male dorms. I did

word of mouth and grass root marketing by reaching out to local artist

and DJ’s in the Tallahassee I did research on Turntable.fm to get a

better understanding on the program.

The event….
The event was AWESOME and COMPETIVE! FAMU students got to enjoy different genre of music on Turntable.fm. MEISA did an informational session about their organization to get more students interested in the music industry. I explain the program Turntable.fm to the audience and let them know about the winning prizes (Jam box). I arrange for the event to be in the Smart Room of the Music Building. I set up a table with different promotional items from artist such as: Taylor Swift, TheWeeknd and Ne-Yo. I set-up the Jam box, which was hooked up to the Smart board.
I had two rounds of the Turntable.fm because of the number of people at the event. I went around during the event to make sure everyone was logged on and able to understand the program. My job was to be the moderator to make sure everyone had a chance to spin their mix. A lot of dancing and different body movement was going on during each track; some listeners were rapping well the song was playing. The DJ’s utilize the search, chat room and like button well using the program. A few of DJ’s were having some competitive language well playing, which was very hilarious. The points were very close between three DJ’s but the winner Casey, Nelson was very pleased with winning the Jam box. “I can wait to jam with my Jam box,” said Nelson. The runner-up received the “Trilogy” album.
A lot of networking happened at the event. People were able to network with each other based on their music interest. I also got to meet a talented artist who showed his talent to the people in the room. I made sure that people download the TurnTable.fm on their smart phone before they left the event. People were actually shocked that the Jam box was so loud with a heavy bass. After the event, I was able to build a partnership with MEISA for future events.
